Robert Deters

Robert Deters is a tireless advocate for his clients and always fights for his clients. Born and raised in Wisconsin, he is a proud Badger and graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a degree in International Relations. Later he attended the University of Wisconsin- Madison’s Law School, receiving his J.D. in 2005. While in law school Mr. Deters worked at the Innocence Project at the University of Wisconsin gaining valuable knowledge in how to right wrongs committed in the criminal justice system. In addition, he worked at the Wisconsin Supreme Court gaining valuable insight into the highest levels of jurisprudence.
Since 2006 Mr. Deters has worked as a criminal defense attorney throughout the Chicagoland area. He has practiced and tried cases in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Will, McHenry, Boone and Lake Counties. In addition to representing clients at all levels of criminal cases, he also has done license reinstatement before the Secretary of State. After hearing from many clients of their difficulties post-sentence he also assists with Firearm Owner’s Identification Card revocation and denial appeals. Orders of Protection and Stalking No Contact litigation is also a large part of Mr. Deters’ practice and he represents both petitioners and respondents in court. Last, Mr. Deters represents those needing assistance with immigration cases, applying for visas, citizenship, DACA or other immigration matters.
Mr. Deters is highly regarded as an attorney by both his peer lawyers and judges alike. He has served multiple terms as the President of the McHenry County Bar Association Criminal Law Section. Mr. Deters has delivered dozens of educational presentations to lawyers and judges throughout the state for the Illinois State Bar Association and multiple county bar associations.
